Top surface gold plating, also known as surface plating, involves the deposition of a gold layer on the top surface of the printed plug. This method exposes the copper on both sides and the front end of the print plug, sans a protective nickel layer, making it highly susceptible to corrosion.

 

hree-sided gold plating, on the other hand, is a more comprehensive process that involves plating the top and all four sides of the print plug, along with its front end. While this method offers better protection against corrosion than top surface gold plating, it still has its drawbacks, as it exposes more of the print plug's surface area to potential corrosion.

 

Four-sided Edge Metallization gold plating, also known as full plating, is the most comprehensive method of the three. It does not require nickel-plated leads on the front end of printed plugs, which necessitates the enhancement and optimization of the production process. This method provides the best protection against corrosion due to its comprehensive coverage of the print plug's surface area.

 

In the production process of three-sided gold plating, several components are involved to ensure the quality of the end product. These include the front-end outer layer wiring, solder resist, anti-electroless gold dry film (which covers all wiring except for the printed plug leads), nickel electroplating, secondary wiring, alkaline lead etching, and post-processing. This Edge Metallization production process is considered conventional and relatively mature, having been refined over the years to provide reliable results."
